During the mid-seventies, several studies showed that nearly everybody within manufacturing industries had the same requirements for a good flooring solution.
It would have to be hygienic, easy to clean, aesthetically pleasing, slip-resistant and of course, long-lasting.
Off the back of these studies, Acrylicon founder Bjørn Hegstad started his research into how to create a resin flooring system which would meet all of these requirements.
In 1977, after several years of research, development and trials, the Acrylicon Decor System was born.
It was created out of a need within the Norwegian food sector, especially the fish industry, for hard-wearing floors that stood up under the stresses and strains of processing.
By identifying the best generic properties in the raw materials, he and his team were able to develop a system which combined two important qualities of a flooring solution: a fast curing time, with high compressive strength.
Acrylicon went on to develop further floor systems that not only met the needs of each client but exceeded them.
Since its invention and 1977 beginnings, Acrylicon has become a reputable manufacturer of flooring solutions, installed worldwide through its network of licensed regional installers.
In today’s fast-paced world many of the flooring requirements Acrylicon set out to solve remain the same. The mission is still to give the world flooring solutions which last longer and stand the test of time.
Various businesses, from local commercial kitchens to multi-national soft drinks manufacturers, have experienced the advantages of an Acrylicon flooring system first hand.
Acrylicon was taken internationally in the mid 90s when several multi-national clients wanted the same standard of flooring across all their worldwide facilities.
Due to the continued worldwide demand, licensed operations were established in the UK, Canada, America, Egypt and the Middle East — and it is as part of this network that Acrylicon UK proudly serves British industry today, as an authorised licensee and installer of the system.
To this day, the network continues to provide many of Acrylicon’s original international clients with flooring solutions, for refurbishing projects and newly constructed facilities.
The creation of Acrylicon’s modern production facility in Germany cemented the brand’s worldwide reputation. From this state-of-the-art facility, further high-quality research is undertaken within development laboratories, upholding an exceptional level of quality control.
Acrylicon has grown into an international network with many prestigious installations to its name — and wherever clients require solutions to their flooring problems, a licensed Acrylicon installer will be there.
With a Norwegian ethos at its heart, the Acrylicon network is committed to reducing its impact on the environment — and as its UK licensee, so are we. Our pledge to help the environment extends to our customers, our staff and the community in which we operate. For decades the Acrylicon systems we install have been solvent free, low VOC and non-toxic, with most built to a life expectancy of 20 years or more, making them incredibly sustainable. If the floor suffers any mechanical damage, it can be easily repaired and quickly refurbished, avoiding unnecessary removal and re-installation — helping to keep the demand on the world’s resources as low as possible.
The main components of an Acrylicon system are mixed together and installed on site. For most installations there is very little waste, as any residual product can be recycled. Where possible, materials are supplied in bulk using recyclable drum containers and canisters. Even Acrylicon’s manufacturing process creates minimal waste, and almost all raw materials are procured within close proximity to the production facility in Germany.
The unique Acrylicon formula is incredibly durable and lasts 4–8 times longer than standard resin flooring — the strongest flooring in the industry.
Unlike other resin flooring on the market, the curing time is exceptionally fast. Within 2 hours of installation, your new floor will be fully cured and ready to use.
Acrylicon is so confident in its technology that all Acrylicon flooring comes with a 10 year warranty. Many clients have gone 15 years before needing any kind of maintenance.
The Acrylicon network services clients around the world, with a vast number of satisfied customers. Once a floor has been laid, the likelihood of needing further maintenance is extremely low.
Due to continued demand from international clients, the Acrylicon network has licensed representatives around the world; including the UK, America, Canada, Europe and the Middle East.
The formula continues to stand the test of time and hasn’t been changed since the 70s. Many original floors are still in pristine condition and perfect working order.
Don’t just take our word for it; Acrylicon is accredited by many leading industrial bodies.
