About The Project
Acrylicon is understandably proud to be able to play a ‘supporting’ role in the success of Tunnock’s in Scotland. Almost as iconic as Irn Bru, smoked salmon, haggis or whisky, they are one of Scotland’s best-loved confectionery companies.
Formed by Thomas Tunnock as Tunnock’s in 1890, when he purchased a baker’s shop in Lorne Place, Uddingston, they now have worldwide sales of over £50 million and employ in excess of 500 staff.
Over the last 3 years, we have been working with Tunnocks to provide the Acrylicon Décor system into several production areas using our Traffic Red colour as it is a great match to the Tea-Cake wrapping.
The substrate was prepared by a combination of shot-blasting and hand-grinding the surface to remove any latex, laitance and contamination, and to provide a good key. Having fully cleaned and vacuumed the floor, a primer coat was applied, followed by the Acrylicon Décor system and we also created a 100mm high, 50mm radius coving to the wall/floor interface. A stainless steel coving trim was used to leave a high quality and aesthetic finish.
